台湾三大太阳能公司昱晶、新日光能源(NSP)和升阳(Solartech)宣布合并成一家公司。新公司被命名为United Renewable Energy Co., Ltd (UREC)，将会在今年12月底前正式成立，合并程序预计将于2018年三季度完成。三家公司的董事会已经签署了一份意向书，并设定了合并的条件。
新公司以三家公司平等互利为基础成立。但基于法律原因，NSP在合并后保留为存续公司，合并完成后，NSP将成为URCE。
UREC将有五个独立的业务单元，分别对应不同的业务：昱晶负责晶片、升阳负责电池及其他新业务，新日光负责组件和项目。
NSP表示，UREC将寻求为台湾的绿色能源产业创造一个新的商业模式，并将邀请其他台湾太阳能公司加入其平台，“以促进台湾太阳能产业的可持续发展和升级”。新公司的既定目标是垂直整合，生产自主开发的组件，并进入电站开发业务。使台湾的太阳能电池产业摆脱其作为代工厂的角色，进一步促进绿色能源产业在台湾的扎根和壮大。
来自BNEF、IHS等的一些行业分析师对这一合并发表了各自的观点。
