造成组件功率损耗的常见原因与密封剂有关。制造商通常对价格比较敏感,而EVA由于其成本低廉成为了一种受欢迎的密封材料。但聚烯烃密封剂耐久性更好。一项调查显示,含有聚烯烃材料的组件平均年度损耗率为0.33% ,而传统的EVA组件通常为0.7–0.8% 。另外硅离子基密封剂与聚烯烃产品具有同样的功能,但成本较高。
