南澳大利亚州政府(SA)与特斯拉(Tesla)之间就100mW/cm2 129mwh Hornsdale电池项目的合作将扩展到分布式发电和储能领域。双方宣布了合建虚拟电站(VPP)的大胆提议，这将对全澳乃至全球的能源转型产生巨大影响。
这一VPP项目将在4.5年的时间内给5万户家庭带来250兆瓦屋顶光伏和650兆瓦的电池储能。项目的一些关键细节有：试验阶段，将无偿提供5 kW/13.5 kWh的屋顶太阳能+储能给政府房屋托管机构(Housing Trust)使用；Tesla协助系统的安装并提供Powerwall 2，用户开始计费。第二阶段，推广至另外2400家Housing Trust。第三阶段，推广至全南澳至少5.5万户家庭。这一项目总需资金8000亿澳元，大部分将通过私人投资筹集。目前已获得了南澳可再生能源技术基金的200万惠赠款与3000万贷款。
Frontier Economics的经济模型显示，该方案一旦在2021年达到设计产能，将能使该州节省1.8亿澳币的电力支出。
南澳州总理Wetherill表示，本周一上午就有超过6500个家庭在线注册有意参与VPP项目。
