沙特阿拉伯可再生能源项目开发处（(REPDO）发出了关于开发和建设7座新太阳能光伏独立发电厂项目的意向书（EOI）邀请，总容量约为1.515GW。
这些项目的单独容量介于20-600MW间，将分布在沙特的多个地点。其中有三个项目——Al Faisaliah 项目 (600MW)、Rabigh 项目（300MW）和 Jeddah项目(300MW)——将位于吉达城附近。有两个项目，50MW的Madinah电站和20MW的Mahd Al Dahab电站将建在麦地纳省。45MW的Rafha太阳能项目将位于北部边境省，靠近拉法(Rafha)市。还有200MW的Qurayyat太阳能方案将位于Al Jawf省，靠近阿古拉耶特（Qurayyat）城。有兴趣的开发商需要在2月14日前提交意向书。
此次招标是沙特国家可再生能源计划（NREP）第二轮的一部分，该计划预计今年将分配约2.2GW的太阳能发电量。REPDO也在本月宣布了新的国家可再生能源目标——2030年前部署40GW的太阳能，而可再生能源的总体目标为58.7GW。
在第一轮NREP计划中，REPDO分配了约700MW的可再生能源容量，其中Sakaka光伏项目获得了300MW的容量。
那次招标因为出现了太阳能最低报价而引起了全球的广泛关注——法国能源巨头EDF的报价仅为SAR0.06697/kWh（约为0.0178美元），但最后中标的是沙特能源巨头ACWA，中标价为SAR0.08872/kWh。
