马来西亚石油天然气集团Petroliam Nasional Berhad （Petronas）首次进军可再生能源领域——从基础设施投资者I Squared Capital公司收购了新加坡太阳能开发商Amplus Energy Solutions（后者拥有500兆瓦的光伏项目组合）。这一交易预计将在本月完成，但交易的财务条款未被披露。
Petronas总裁兼首席执行官Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin表示，“此次收购反映了本公司在可再生能源领域的战略意图，这是我们走出石油和天然气战略的一部分。”而这也是该公司的第一个国际性太阳能项目。
Amplus Energy，也被称为M+，其主要业务是为东南亚、印度和中东的工商客户开发光伏设施。去年8月，该公司在印度北方邦的印度世博会商业中心完成了一个3.44兆瓦的屋顶阵列。
Petronas还透露，将与玛拉工艺大学(UiTM)下属的一个投资机构UiTM Holdings一起开发大型屋顶光伏项目。有消息称，该集团今年1月曾与阿布扎比的Masdar公司和新加坡的Sembcorp公司竞标，意欲收购印度开发商Hero Future Energy的少数股权。
根据国际可再生能源机构的估计，马来西亚的累计光伏装机容量在2018年底达到438兆瓦左右，而2017年底的数据为约317兆瓦。
