壳牌(Shell)公司最近与阿曼的苏哈尔港口自贸区(Sohar Port and Freezone) 签署了合作协议，将在后者600公顷的土地上建造光伏设施。
Shell将在这一地区开发各种太阳能电站，容量从10-40兆瓦不等。其首个项目是在Al-Tamman Indsil Ferrochrome LLC所拥有的碳铬铁冶炼厂开发一座25兆瓦的光伏电站。
Al-Tamman Indsil Ferrochrome公司首席财务官Anindya Das表示，这一新建项目展现出公司实现利用生态友好方式进行业务活动的承诺。公司期待能在未来能成为类似创新解决方案的一个组成部分，这不仅对苏哈尔及其周边社区有利，而且还将惠及整个国家。
苏哈尔地方政府目前正在试图把自贸区中的4,500公顷土地改造成“绿色自贸区”，而太阳能光伏发电容量的增加将有助于加速这一目标的实现。
阿曼计划在2030年前安装4吉瓦的太阳能发电容量，并新增一个500兆瓦的太阳能公园。该国还计划在全国各地增加159兆瓦的离网光伏-柴油混合发电厂。阿曼农村电力公司（Tanweer）将在11个不同的地点与独立发电商合作建设这些项目。
壳牌最近在其荷兰Moerdijk化工厂启动了一个27兆瓦太阳能项目。
