埃及电力公司（EETC）已与世界银行旗下的国际金融公司（IFC）签订了协议，将合作在埃及西尼罗河省招标开发一座600兆瓦的太阳能电站。
IFC将担任这一项目的咨询顾问，并负责与EETC可再生能源项目有关的所有咨询顾问事务。合作双方均未披露任何其他的技术或财务细节，也没有提供具体的实施时间表。项目的确切位置也有待确认。
EETC在2017年12月启动了这一600兆瓦项目的招标行动，这是该国首次采用建设-自有-运营（BOO）模式对太阳能项目进行招标。
据报道，至2018年2月，EETC已收到了18份投标书，其中包括丰田通商（Toyota Tsusho）、Orascom、NTPC LTD、EDRA、以及Scatec Solar和 Azuri Power牵头的联合体（协鑫新能源也在其中）。去年9月，还有5家公司仍在参与投标，这其中包括中国的特变电工新能源集团。项目规模从200兆瓦到500兆瓦不等。EETC在去年9月份宣布，它能接受的最高电价为0.025美元/千瓦时。
埃及的Benban大型光伏设施目前正在建设中，9月底前将有1.8吉瓦的容量并网。该国还推出了净计量方案以支持屋顶光伏。
