世界银行附属机构国际金融公司（IFC）与莫桑比克国营电力公司（EDM）发布了一份征求意向书，招募顾问为在莫桑比克的3-5个场地开发小型太阳能发电园区提供支持。
这些并网项目的容量在10MW-15MW之间，预期将达到60MW的总电力产量。同时储电站的部署也在考虑中。选聘的顾问需要与地方当局合作以寻找最合适的场地并获取许可。 截止目前，莫桑比克大部分的太阳能光伏设施都是在未入网的偏远地区建造的离网型太阳能和微型电网项目。然而，政府正在寻求通过可再生能源拍卖促进项目（PROLER）设计一个可再生能源拍卖机制，欧盟在2017年通过该项目向莫桑比克提供了400万欧元的资金。目前，莫桑比克只有一个在建的大型太阳能电站，即挪威公司Scatec Solar的40MW莫库巴太阳能独立发电项目。EDM就这个耗资7600万美元的项目签订了一份25年的电力采购协议（PPA）。
国际可再生能源署（IRENA）发布的最新统计显示，截止2018年12月，莫桑比克仅有17MW总装机光伏电能，去年部署了2MW。
