沙特阿拉伯可再生能源项目发展办公室（REPDO）已启动1.2吉瓦太阳能发电产能招标的招标流程。
REPDO将通过该国国家可再生能源计划的第三轮招标来选择开发商，以便建设装机容量分别为80、120、300，以及巨大的700兆瓦的四个太阳能发电项目。
沙特政府表示，中选项目必须包含至少17%的国产内容。资格预审的截止日期是2月6日。 REPDO在3月份表示，意在分配1.5吉瓦大规模太阳能产能的该计划第二轮共吸引了250个竞标者。该行政机构在7月表示，投标者数量已缩小到60个，其中28个是沙特阿拉伯企业。但最终结果有待后续公布。
在采购计划的第一轮中，REPDO为一座单体发电厂落实了300兆瓦的太阳能发电能力。这个名为Sakaka的太阳能项目项目现已投入运营。之前的第一轮招标以有史以来最低的太阳能发电价格吸引了全球关注——法国能源巨头EDF给出了0.06697沙特里亚尔/千瓦时（合0.018美元）的平准电价。但是这一出价被拒绝，最终沙特能源巨头ACWA以0.08872沙特里亚尔/千瓦时成功中标。
