欧洲通信卫星组织(Eutelsat)对10月发射的Eutelsat 5 West B号卫星上发生故障的太阳能电池阵列的调查已经结束。
这家总部位于巴黎的公司表示,已经确认丢失了南面的太阳能电池阵列。它是这颗卫星上的两个太阳能电池阵列之一,这使其运行能力降低到了约45%。
这家欧洲卫星运营机构表示,“Eutelsat 5 West B能通过一份发射加一年期保险,为部分或全部损失获得高达1.73亿欧元的保障。”该机构又补充说,失去太阳能电池板将导致其本财政年度收入减少至500万-1000万美元。

这家公司表示:“解决措施的一次性成本主要与接地天线的重新对准有关,0到1000万欧元之间都有可能。”
尽管遭遇了一些变故,但这颗卫星有望在本月开始运转,并在预定的服役期限内正常工作。暂无有关受影响阵列所用的光伏技术及其丢原因的消息公布出来。发射后数天内即就对故障进行了调查。 大多数航天器太阳能电池阵列都采用昂贵且超高效的III-V太阳能电池,这是根据所用材料在周期表中所处的族系位置来命名的。 美国国家可再生能源实验室的一个团队提出了一种新工艺,可降低高效但昂贵的砷化镓电池的生产成本。中国组件制造商晶科太阳能已与上海空间电源研究所签署了一份理解备忘录,以便共同开发高效太阳能电池技术。
