ACWA宣布与埃及两个政府部门就评估一系列可再生能源驱动的海水淡化项目签订了一份谅解备忘录（MoU)。
根据这份协议，计划在对埃及某地的海水淡化项目开展首次可行性研究后展开一个初步研究，这些项目或为太阳能、风力驱动或太阳能风力混合驱动。
报告是为埃及住房、公用事业与城市社区部门以及国有公用企业埃及电力控股公司撰写。公共机构而后将决定针对这些拟议项目的下一步动作。沙特化石燃料公司ACWA并未指定研究完成的时间线。
太阳能设施
目前尚不确定这些拟议项目是否将包含新的太阳能和风力发电设施或是将利用现有设施的产能来淡化海水。去年，埃及在阿斯旺南部城市附近的Benban基地完成了1.5吉瓦的太阳能发电容量联网，还对 600兆瓦的光伏发电资产进行了招标。 ACWA在Benban基地开发了120兆瓦的太阳能，并中标在埃及西尼罗河地区开发200兆瓦的考姆翁布项目，项目预期将在明年完工。“我们将继续扩大在这个国家的投资，”ACWA首席执行官Paddy Padmanathan说道，“这份谅解备忘录的执行也象征着埃及政府对我们的信任。”
此外，这家沙特公司目前正在阿布扎比开发世界最大的反渗透海水淡化厂。项目预计每天能够产出909立方米水。
