沙特阿拉伯可再生能源项目发展办公室（REPDO）已为1月下旬启动1.2吉瓦太阳能招标公布了通过资格预审的投标人名单。
共有49家竞标者入围，其中包括全球太阳能行业中一些最有实力的参与者，比如法国的EDF和道达尔太阳能（Total Solar），以及西班牙的Solarpack、Acciona和TSK。在榜单上的还有德国的ib vogt，以及中国的晶科太阳能、阿斯特阳光电力和协鑫集团。韩国的韩国电力公司和日本丸红也将参与竞争。此外，沙特阿拉伯的公用事业公司ACWA Power也与阿联酋的马斯达尔（Masdar）、美国组件制造商第一太阳能（First Solar）和印度尼西亚的公用事业公司Tenaga Nasional也都纷纷入围。
REPDO将通过该国国家可再生能源计划的第三轮招标来选择开发商，以便建设装机容量分别为80兆瓦、120兆瓦、300兆瓦，以及巨大的700兆瓦的四个太阳能发电项目。沙特政府表示，中选项目必须包含至少17%的国产内容。 REPDO在3月份表示，意在分配1.5吉瓦大规模太阳能产能的该计划第二轮共吸引了250个竞标者。
在采购计划的第一轮中，REPDO为一座单体发电厂分配了300兆瓦的太阳能发电容量，即已经投入运营的Sakaka太阳能项目。
