马来西亚能源和自然资源部（Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources）宣布，该国第四轮大规模太阳能（LSS）采购计划将于周日启动。
该部门在推特上称，为了让更多的开发商能够参与进来，符合资格的项目最大规模已减半，即从100兆瓦减至50兆瓦。每家开发商最多投标三次。
一半的可用发电量将授予给10-30兆瓦的项目，其余的将给与更大的发电厂。一旦申请成功，发电厂将在2023年底之前完成并网。
根据马来西亚国家招标计划，该国政府已进行过三轮采购。
前几轮
2016年，第一轮采购活动面向整个半岛分配200兆瓦的发电量，还有婆罗洲北部沙巴50兆瓦的发电量，而预期总发电量为370兆瓦。
次年举行的第二次LSS招标离预定的520兆瓦目标更近，它分配了360兆瓦的半岛太阳能，并向沙巴和纳闽岛分配了100兆瓦。然而，尽管此次活动以0.33-0.53马来西亚令吉/千瓦时的价格竞购了1.6吉瓦的发电量，但仍然未能达成目标。
最后一轮招标吸引了112家投标商，发电量超过6.73吉瓦，且最低太阳能价格为0.17777马来西亚令吉/千瓦时（0.041美元）。但是，马来西亚能源监管机构Suruhanjaya Tenaga仅将5家投标商列入了入围名单，而它们的总发电量为490兆瓦，因此暗示此次活动将再次认购不足。
根据国际可再生能源机构（International Renewable Energy Agency）的数据，截止2019年底，马来西亚的太阳能发电容量为882兆瓦。
