上周晚些时候，拟议中的26吉瓦亚洲可再生能源中心（AREH）计划被联邦政府给予“重大项目”地位，该计划旨在将澳大利亚转型为全球主要的绿色氢能生产国和出口国。
耗资500亿澳元（合356亿美元）的AREH将利用西澳大利亚州东皮尔巴拉地区的世界一流风能和太阳能资源，将高达23吉瓦的产能用于生产绿色氢能和绿色氨能。同时，它还将为西澳大利亚州皮尔巴拉地区的本地用户（如采矿和矿物加工业务）提供高达3吉瓦的能源产能。
“重大项目地位”即认可一个项目对澳大利亚的战略意义。此种情况下，AREH恰好与政府强调的将氢作为发展优先技术的技术投资路线图相契合。该项目还将在其10年的建设期间创造20,000多个直接和间接就业机会，2027年运营开始后，将提供数千个固定的正式就业岗位。
总部位于香港的绿色氢能开发商Intercontinental Energy、CWP Renewables、涡轮机供应商Vestas和Pathway Investments也加入了该项目主要开发合作伙伴联盟，为该项目提供专业知识支持。

AREH将采用其可再生能源供能的电解装置利用海水制氢，满负荷生产时可提供高达100太瓦时电力，用于大规模生产绿色氢产品，供应国内和出口市场。
