加纳政府已在布维（Bui）水电站大坝水库上启用了5兆瓦的浮式太阳能光伏系统。
这个5兆瓦的试点光伏阵列是总容量为250兆瓦的浮式光伏项目的首个部分。整个项目将按50兆瓦为单位分步实施。
该太阳能电站连接到404兆瓦的布维水电站大坝的输电系统。大坝由中国企业中国水利水电集团于2013年建成投产。而这次的大型浮式光伏项目由成立于2007年，专门负责运营大坝发电的布依电力局（BPA）自主开发。
太阳能电站能在干旱季节里作为大坝利用黑伏尔塔河水力发电的补充。据BPA董事长Afare Apeadu Donkor称，该项目第二阶段的建设工作“正在进行中”，但没有给出确切的完工时间。
加纳总统Nana Akufo-Addo在这个5兆瓦试点项目的揭幕式上表示，“这再度显示了这一届政府致力于实现到2030年，提升我国能源结构中的可再生能源部分的多样性，并将占比提升到10%的承诺。” 加纳正在加大努力，提高可再生能源在电力结构中的比例。根据其能源战略，该国希望到2030年实现2.5吉瓦的可再生能源发电产能——其中可能包括水电。根据国际可再生能源机构的统计数据，截至2019年底，加纳的太阳能发电装机容量才仅仅64兆瓦。
