“太阳能项目能够增加电力生产，为系统供应洁净的可再生能源，”政府补充道。“这也是伊拉克首次实施的第一批试点项目之一。”
具体的技术和财务详情尚未公布。
目前，中东国家另一个同等规模的在建项目是由阿联酋开发商Masdar在该国建设的总容量为2GW的光伏发电资产，其与伊拉克政府在六月份签订协议。
根据国际可再生能源署消息，虽然有巨大的太阳能潜力，伊拉克的装机光伏容量仅为216MW。过去三年内，伊拉克未部署任何其他的太阳能设施。在2017年，伊拉克以化石燃料发电容量为主的装机容量为11.3GW，而需求则估计为17GW。
