国际太阳能联盟发起了SolarX大挑战竞赛活动，旨在支持非洲的创业和创新。SolarX大挑战竞赛将激励创新者和研究人员提供太阳能行业亟需的高价值创新成果，以加速太阳能系统的应用。
大赛将从非洲各国选出20家初创企业和创新者，每位获胜者将获得30万美元的现金奖励。获胜的企业家将参加一个加速项目，获得进入非洲市场的机会。
国际太阳能联盟总干事Ajay Mathur表示：“SolarX大挑战竞赛是我们促进非洲太阳能部署的双管齐下战略的一部分。按照这项战略，我们正在创建一座太阳能设施，助力非洲国家获得更多的投资。除了获得投资之外，我们还需要构建当地光伏项目规划管道。”
首届SolarX竞赛将重点吸引太阳能行业的投资，缩小能源需求与供应之间的差距，并促进非洲创业生态系统的发展。
Mathur说道：“据估计，非洲的太阳能发电潜力为7900 GW，但目前只有四个非洲国家拥有创业生态系统，因此发电需求与供应之间存在着巨大差距。非洲初创企业吸引到的投资还不到全球风险投资的1%。我们希望通过开展SolarX大赛改变这种状况。”
SolarX大挑战竞赛将在2023年4月前公布入围名单，并在2023月6月前宣布获胜者。
