两年一度的太阳能汽车赛将在澳大利亚冬末举行，具体时间为2025年8月24日至8月31日，而非传统的10月中旬，从达尔文出发至阿德莱德。普利司通世界太阳能挑战赛大使兼教员Chris Selwood在新闻发布会上表示：“这一比赛日期意味着太阳在空中的高度将更低，日出的时间更晚，而日落的时间更早。”
“由于8月份每日的太阳辐照量相比10月份减少了20%，研究团队需要更加关注能源效率，因为世界的能源需求并不会在太阳落山的时候停止。”季节变化只是下一届比赛中参赛者面临的挑战之一。单座挑战者级和双座巡洋舰级的比赛新规定即将出台。
截至目前，组织者已经表示巡洋舰级比赛将允许过夜充电。巡洋舰组和挑战者组将同台竞赛。
挑战者级的比赛变化包括提升了能量收集能力，但减少了允许的存储容量。具体来说，其允许的最大机载存储能量为11 MJ，允许的太阳能电池面积为4至6平方米。
根据组织者的说法，这些团队将不得不实践“战略”能源管理，这“与供应商日常面临的各种挑战相一致，他们在电力可用性和电力使用之间平衡供需差距”。
